How my site is monetised

Hello! It is my goal to be completely transparent with you, so here are the details of how I monetise my website.

Sponsored content

Sponsored content refers to writing that was paid for.

The majority of content on this site has not been sponsored but occasionally I will accept an offer to write for someone. I get requests most weeks and I’m very particular about who I say yes to. I want my content to be trustworthy and genuine and will always use my own words and opinions.

When I write “sponsored” that means I was paid money to write a post by the company. I will always be upfront and declare it at the start of the post.

I do occasionally receive PR products from a brand without any financial compensation. Again, I often say no to this because free products don’t pay the bills, but occasionally accept if I either need the product or it’s something I’d like to review at that moment in time.

I will only promote ethical companies and accept products I need and will use. It will always be declared when a product has been given to me for free. The brands I work with never tell me what to write or expect me to be dishonest. If they did, I would refuse to work with them.

I (Sophie) am the only contributor, all words are written by me.

Guest posts

I do not accept payment for guest posts, which are when random websites pay bloggers to feature their own written content (to boost their website’s domain authority on Google). This is a way lots of bloggers make extra money, but I find it makes websites look spammy.

I would consider posting content by a blogger I had a relationship with, but so far I haven’t done this.

So you can feel confident all words on this website have been written by me.

Affiliate links

What are affiliate links? When you click on one of those links and make a purchase, I will earn a small commission at absolutely no extra cost to you.

I will typically do my research first, and then reach out to brands I plan on featuring to see if they use affiliate marketing or offer discount codes for my readers.

I'm deeply passionate about this site, and it is my goal to make this a place where you can come and trust the information you’re reading. I appreciate your support so much. Profits that are brought in through affiliate links will be reinvested into the site to improve it and make it an even better resource for you.

All affiliate programs I am part of are vetted to ensure they are ethical companies with sustainable practices.

I do not support Amazon due to their tax avoidance and human rights issues (which makes it a lot harder to monetise this site).

I only work with brands that I know and trust. Please note I stand 100% behind the products that I recommend on this site and I want you to feel confident that you will be getting value in return. I won’t link to something that I don’t believe in or doesn’t align with what I do here.

Skimlinks affiliate program

I am connected with the affiliate marketing platform Skimlinks which many brands have partnered with. This site automatically changes normal links to affiliate links if the brand is registered with Skimlinks. This means I can’t highlight individual links as affiliate links and there could potentially be an affiliate link on every page on my website that has a link to a shop.

Discount codes

Sometimes a brand gives me a discount code to share with my readers. I cannot be held responsible if a discount code expires, is taken down early, or is refused and neither can the company who provided it.

Feel free to contact me and I will see if I can get you an updated code.

Codes usually can’t be used against sale items and will all have terms and conditions on the retailer’s website. You are always entitled to a refund, please check the brand’s policy.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask via the contact page.

Adverts

I have started using adverts on my website. This is done via an affiliate relationship with the brand featured and is not AI. This allows me to ensure that the advert you see is a sustainable brand and not flashy or annoying.

I do my best to stay on top of these, but sometimes the offers advertised finish and I don’t realise.

I cannot be held responsible if an offer ends and is still on my website, but I apologise for the inconvenience.

Google AdSense

In 2024, I made the decision to trial Google Adsense due to the impact of the cost of living on my finances. I know some people will be disappointed but I will do my best to make sure my site isn’t too annoying to read.
