Did you know one million marine animals are killed by plastic pollution each year?

It’s a horrible thought, isn’t it?

Especially when you consider humans are still producing over 380 million tons of the stuff each year.

Plastic is everywhere.

If you are able to, you can try to reduce the single-use plastic in your home. This is beneficial for three reasons:

  1. It creates a demand for reusable alternatives

  2. Big oil is still investing millions in plastic

  3. It may save you money in the long term

You could also sign these UK petitions to fight plastic pollution and climate change at a systemic level. We need government policy to stop manufacturing plastic and to ban hidden microbeads from products we use in our homes.

Supporting small Eco Friendly businesses

When moving towards a plastic-free lifestyle, the most sustainable option is to support small businesses where you can.

Plastic-free stores or zero waste shops owned by real people with families instead of plastic-producing, carbon-emitting Supermarkets and Amazon. These huge corporations (owned by billionaires) exploit the people who make our food, clothes and electronics.

Like when Asda didn’t pay their garment workers during the pandemic (even though they remained open). #payup

Or when Amazon used forced child labour to make their Alexas.

That quote about voting for the kind of world you want with your wallet, couldn’t be more appropriate.
